WHY

Help team members to take decision & action, helps communication within the team by giving a global view of the activity, sharing objectives & raising problems. The important is not the result but what is done.
WHAT
​
Boards allow to follow performances. It can be economical (efficiency, output...), human (skill matrix,...). They are used during gemba walks, stand up meetings. Performance boards are generally link to problem collection board or action plan board. Should be visual showing quickly all the gaps to detect if are out of the target. We must also avoid to examine to many indicators. 1 to 3 indicators are sufficient to provide an overview of performance. It is better to have few indicators but with big lever effects. Each performance board is associated to a process with a routine (frequency of update). The display expresses facts bearing no judgment: « a gap is not a fault, it is a fact, a reality not guilty».
HOW

Creation of the board. Define needs and content (link to "kpi tree"). Should be at dedicated place, visible for everyone, on the field, close to the team. Handwritten is better. It is important to take time to explain the interest of boards to teams. For each board you need to define a process of update and a frequency of review.

All datas have to be updated at anytime and associated to decisions and actions.

Animate your actions and update again the board.

Boards are powered by the data recorded by the operators. Operators therefore directly contribute to the achievement of billboards. Thus, they realize gaps with targets and they learn to speak with data.
