WHY

Absenteeism is one of key factor to impact the production line efficiency, and then morale of team. By well management of absenteeism, it will help to keep stable performance of production line and benefit the morale of team.

WHAT

Absenteeism is defined as a pattern of missing work by team members. It caused from annual leave, sick, no pay leave and other leaves. Absenteeism contributes to decrease production line efficiency in a factory and then impact human turnover, increase labor costs when replacement workers need to be hired, and management and hiring costs.

Factory need to find solution to decrease the absenteeism rate and decrease the impact if absenteeism happen, especially for production line whose efficiency is impacted a lot when team member absent.

HOW

Absenteeism can be solved by employers and work environments in many different ways:

  1. Start to record each day Absenteeism by each line or department by visual way.

  2. Review production line performance frequently with all team members and share the link between absenteeism rate and line performance. Create the awareness of each team member to decrease the absenteeism rate.

  3. Create policy or rules to require team member to well manage the leaves in advance with notification.

  4. Analyze the absenteeism of your factory and figure out the main reasons for absence and find main solution or incentive plans to increase morale and encourage employees to come to work every day.

If absenteeism happen, how to decrease the impact:

  1. With the data analysis of absenteeism, calculate the money losing from decrease of production efficiency because of absenteeism, and compare it with the cost of hiring one joker(multi-skill team member). Find the good balance to increase the No. of joker.

  2. Train joker in advance to replace the absent worker.

  3. If team member absent for a long time, need to think about re-line balance.
